Marine Science

1. Obey School Rules – They will be strictly enforced.
   • Respect each other
   • No talking while the teacher is lecturing
   • Ask questions
   • Put things back after use in the same condition as they were found in
   • Participate, suggest, give examples/input
   • Seating is not assigned – but is permanent
   • Tardiness is disruptive – please limit
   • *Penalties will be given from verbal to referral based on teacher’s discretion

• Safety glasses
• Apron
• Pen/Pencil
• 3-ring binder
• Paper
• Calculator

4. Grading:
• Labs – 50%
• Participation – 20%
• Exam 1 – 10%
• Exam 2 – 10%
• Papers – 10%

5. Grade sheet will be handed out on Monday with the course outline.  Students will be responsible of keeping track of their own grades on the sheet.  Updates from the teacher will be given on a 9 week basis to the student.
6. Late work will be accepted at a rate of one letter grade per day loss.
7. Failed grades will require parent’s signature.
8. Grades will be given on a straight scale (ex. 97-100%A+, 94-96%A, 90-93%A-….F<60%).
9. All assignments will be due on Friday (anytime) – put on my desk
10. The purpose of this class will be to teach the general principles of Marine Biology.  This will include Ecology, Genetics, Species, Classification, systems and structure (anatomy and physiology) and Microbiology.
11. We will be following the text Marine Biology by Castro and Huber.
